When an author isn’t quite an author

Gordon Brown’s book Wartime Courage was serialised in The Daily Telegraph ahead of Remembrance Sunday. In it, we are told, Brown highlights tales of heroism in World War Two. Most remarkably, it is Brown’s fourth book of the year, No wonder the economy is shredded.

But look more closely and the reality is that boom is not written by the great man. Despite claims that it is the result of a “personal journey” and comes from meeting 33 unsung heroes, Private Eye has revealed the reality is that Brown only met most of them shortly before the book’s release. Oh, and one other small point. Brown wrote little more than the introduction and conclusion. The bulk of the text was provided by researchers from the charity Community Links.
