If anyone needed a reason that ITV are unfit for sports coverage – and the rugby World Cup was half decent because they borrowed Sky Sports’ commentators – it came during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Commercial breaks make it hard to follow F1 – it’s like watching a film which isn’t paused as the adverts come on – all the more so when the break coincides with the race’s major moment.
As ITV cut to commercials Lewis Hamilton was in sixth … when we came back he was 18th. In 60 seconds his title ambitions were in shreds, but ITV were richer. They should just have run one of their infamous phone –in scams where nobody can win and spared us the interruptions.
